Zero was part of a crew of mercenaries led by Ranzar Malk, consisting of Migs Mayfield, Burg, Xi'an, and the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, who were sent by Malk to rescue Qin, a prisoner aboard the New Republic prison ship Othan-Five.
