This is a Relief Beer Stein manufactured by Gerz. This three dimensional (relief), deeply embossed stein holds 0.5 liter of your favorite beverage. It features a colorful hand-painted tavern scene and the German proverb: "Das muß erst gähren / Was sich soll klären" (This must first ferment / What is to become clear). Base Markings: Incised with mold / series numbers 95 and 13, along with a hand-painted red artist’s mark "9". The pewter lid: Tiered 95% Zinn (Pewter) with a decorative acorn-style thumb lift and a five-ring hinge. The manufacturer of this fine piece was Gerz (Simon Peter Gerz I). Made circa 1960' - 1980's. Made in West Germany. Measurements are: Stein is 6 inches tall. 8.5 inches tall with pewter lid. 3.5 inches round base diameter. This vintage item is collectible and it is in gently used condition.
